Maxim: Triple/Quad Hot-Swap Controllers Enable Sequencing, Tracking, or Independent On/Off Control for Low-Voltage Supplies

Maxim

October 28, 2003- Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5927/MAX5929* (quad) and MAX5930/MAX5931*(triple) hot-swap controllers. These new controllers allow the safe insertion and removal of circuit-line cards with multiple supplies into a live backplane. Rated for systems with 1V to 13.2V supplies, these devices limit the inrush current drawn by the load and provide overcurrent and short-circuit protection.

The MAX5927/MAX5929/MAX5930/MAX5931 have a variety of features to simplify design and reduce external component count. Input-voltage rails can be configured to sequentially turn on/off, track each other, or operate independently. The devices' low 25mV circuit-breaker threshold is ideal for low-voltage supplies. All devices include a VariableSpeed/BiLevelTM circuit breaker that protects against overcurrent conditions and prevents nuisance faults caused by noise and load transients.

Other features include an adjustable-input undervoltage lockout, a power-good status indicator, and a choice of latched or auto-retry fault management.

The MAX5927 is available in a 32-pin TQFN package. The MAX5929/MAX5930 are available in a 24-pin QSOP package. The MAX5931 is available in a 20-pin QSOP package. These devices operate in the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices for the MAX5927 start at $5.68, $5.14 for the MAX5929, $4.34 for the MAX5930, and $3.94 for the MAX5931 (1000-up, FOB USA).
