Fully Integrated Dual-slot Pc Card Interface Switch From TI Increases Board Space, Power Efficiency In Computing Devices

Texas Instruments TPS2206A

Texas Instruments announced a highly integrated power management chip for dual-slot personal computing cards used in notebook and desktop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), digital cameras, set-top boxes and bar-code scanners. All discrete power MOSFETS, a logic section, current limiting and thermal protection for PC card control are combined onto a single piece of silicon, giving system power designers a high level of integration to reduce component count and system cost.

The TPS2206A PC CardBusTM power-interface switch allows the controlled distribution of 3.3V, 5V and 12V to each PC card socket. The current-limiting feature and thermal-protection features eliminate the need for fuses, which improves reliability. The TPS2206A incorporates a reset function to help alleviate system errors, and enables PC card initialization and system reset. Reset is accomplished by grounding the Flash memory programming voltage outputs, which discharge residual card voltages.

Packaging, Pricing and Availability

Offered at a lower price than TIґs popular TPS2206 device, the TPS2206A switch is available in volume from TI and its authorized distributors, and comes in a 30-pin SSOP package. Suggested resale pricing in quantities of 1,000 is $2.20.
