  Introduction
  Faster data transfer requirements between a personal
  computer and an increasing number of peripheral devices have boosted the popularity of the IEEE 1394 High
  Performance Serial Bus (FireWire technology), which
  enables speeds up to 400Mbps. FireWire technology
  is п¬Ѓnding its way into real time data transfer and data
  intensive devices such as DVD players, digital video
  recorders, zip drives and CDRW drives. There is a
  growing need for cost effective, low profile, low ripple
  DC/DC power supplies that provide 5V and 3.3V peripheral power directly from the FireWire cable at high
  currents (1A or greater). The LTВ®1766 and LT3430 current mode regulators will satisfy these requirements.
  Circuit Descriptions
  FireWire power sources, such as personal computers,
  provide 8V to 40V to the FireWire serial bus at currents
  of up to 1.5A and can power up to 16 peripherals while
  transferring data synchronously or asynchronously.
  Power sink peripherals, which do not supply power
  to the serial bus, receive power from the serial bus
  via the two power pins of the 6-pin FireWire port.

  Introduction
  Today’s high voltage applications—such as automotive,
  industrial and FireWire peripherals—place increasing
  demands on power supplies. They must provide high
  power, high efficiency and low noise, in a small space
  and over an ever widening range of operational input
  voltages. Many high voltage DC/DC converter solutions
  can meet some of these conditions at high input voltages but they are unable to maintain high efficiencies
  at lower input voltages. Many of these same converters
  have frequency compensation schemes that require
  bulky input and output capacitors, which not only increase the size of the overall solution but also result in
  high output ripple voltage. The LTВ®3430 is designed to
  alleviate all of these problems.
  The LT3430 is a monolithic step-down DC/DC converter
  which utilizes a 3A peak switch current limit and has the
  ability to operate with a 60V input. The LT3430 runs at
  a п¬Ѓxed frequency of 200kHz and is housed in a small
  thermally enhanced 16-pin TSSOP package enabling it
  to save space while optimizing thermal management.

  The widespread proliferation of new
  portable electronic devices has created a problem for manufacturers
  and consumers alike: the potential
  for electromagnetic interference (EMI)
  between devices. EMI at minimum is
  a nuisance, as in the case of noise
  added to a television picture or a radio receiver. At worst, it can impair
  the operation of electronic devices in
  critical applications. EMI sources can
  be elusive, and thus hard to eradicate
  once a device is in the late stages of
  development. It behooves a device
  designer to proactively minimize the
  number of potential sources of EMI,
  possibly saving significant troubleshooting time down the road.
