  INTRODUCTION POWER
  SUPPLY The voltage range of Linear Technology’s PowerPath® circuits can be easily extended with just a few components, thus
  allowing them to meet the needs of virtually all applications.
  This application note presents solutions for circuits that
  must withstand large negative voltages, a reverse adapter
  input for example, and circuits that must withstand large
  positive inputs, such as automotive load-dump.
  EXTENDING THE VOLTAGE RANGE
  Any of Linear’s PowerPath controller circuits can benefit
  from an extended voltage range, even those that already
  have wide operating and absolute maximum voltage
  ranges. For instance, the LTC4412HV and LTC4414 will
  each withstand voltages from –14V to 40V, which can be
  extended further using the techniques described here.
  Likewise, the LTC4412’s range of –14V to 28V can be
  extended. The voltage ranges of monolithic PowerPath
  solutions such as the LTC4411, which ranges from –0.3V
  to 6V, can also be extended, though not as far. …

  Introduction
  Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a new development that allows for the delivery of power to Ethernet-based devices
  via standard Ethernet CAT5 cable, precluding the need
  for wall adapters or other external power sources. The
  PoE specification defines a hardware detection protocol
  where Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) is able to identify
  PoE Powered Devices (PDs), thus allowing full backwards
  compatibility with non-PoE-aware (legacy) Ethernet devices. The PoE specification also sets an upper limit
  on the power that can be drawn by a PD. The problem
  is: what happens when a PD must draw more power
  than allowed by the PoE standard? Examples may be
  the spin up of a disk drive or a period of sustained
  transmission of data from an RF transmitter. If the
  average power load of these applications is less than

  Introduction Many consumer electronic devices
  rely on batteries and wall adapters
  for supplying power for portable and
  hand held applications. These devices
  must rely on some method of automatically and smoothly switching between
  the battery and the wall adapter. The
  LTC4411 is a low loss ideal diode
  that simplifies the implementation of
  PowerPathв„ў control circuitry. With
  the LTC4411 it is possible to build
  an entire power management solution
  in a 2mm Г— 3mm footprint.
  The LTC4411 is a low-voltage
  (2.5V to 5.5V) monolithic (no external P-channel MOSFET needed) ideal
  diode. It is pin-compatible with the
  LTC4412 ideal diode controller (except
  the LTC4411 omits the pin that the
  LTC4412 provides to drive the gate
  of an external P-channel MOSFET).

  The LTC4413 dual monolithic ideal
  diode helps reduce the size and improve the performance of handheld
  and battery operated devices. It packs
  so many features into a tiny package
  that it is possible to build an entire
  power management solution in a
  3mm Г— 3mm footprint. Figure 1 shows
  how simple it is to build a complete
  battery-wall-adapter PowerPathв„ў
