Childhood and early life
Ivan Stankevich is a Russian successful financier and banker, talented entrepreneur and investor who was born on September 25, 1973, in Moscow to the family of scientists. His father, Alexander Ivanovich Stankevich was an extraordinary man who rose to big heights. Being a Doctor of Technical Science, a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and a chairman of the scientific and methodological Council, he was also a head of the Machinery Parts department at the Ordzhonikidze Moscow Aviation Institute during 15 years of his life. Many books and study guides written by him are still used by students in many Russian universities. His mother, Valentina Ivanovna Stankevich also worked at different scientific institutions of the USSR until 1985 when she decided to stop working and dedicate her life to caring her son.
When Ivan was four, his parents took him to the chess school run by the famous coach of the USSR, Lyudmila Sergeyevna Belavenets. He achieved incredible results in chess in a short time. At the age of 7, he already had the qualifying standard for the 2nd adult category. Later, he was invited to take part in the “School of Chess” TV program hosted by his coach on the USSR central TV channel. During this program Ivan played in the exhibition games against ex-world champion B. Smyslov and other famous chess grandmasters of the USSR.
After secondary school, in 1990, he entered the Moscow State Mining University, graduating it with honours in 1995. As an exchange student, Stankevich also studied abroad, at Bradley University in Illinois, in 1994. After his traineeship in the USA, he returned to Moscow where defended his graduation thesis “The State of the World Gold Market” in English. After that, in parallel with work he continued studying. So, in 2001, he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Economics for his thesis “Economic Justification of the Mechanism of Gold Leasing by Mining Companies during the Period of Liberalization of Precious Metals Market”. Besides, he earned an MBA in Finance and Banking at the prestigious Higher School of Economics in 2008.
Business career and personal life
Ivan Stankevich came up all way from an average specialist of the precious metals department to the management board with a seat on the bank’s board of directors. “BAM credit”, “Industrial credit” and “Novoye Vremya” commercial banks where he used to work. His critical work with these banks brought a breakthrough system of money transfers to the countries of the former USSR’s millions of customers. In the period from 2008 to 2015, under his keen oversight, assets, and capital of “Novoye Vremya” bank increased dramatically. He played a huge and critical role in raising this bank to the ranks of the top 250 Russian banks at that time. For nearly 10 years of Stankevich's work in the bank, only one loan was defaulted. He managed to cover this loan by the existing securities and pledges in the amount of the client's liabilities, saving the bank from loss. It was a unique case for Russia.
In addition to work, being a recognized expert in banking and financing, Ivan Stnakevich also often participated as a speaker at international and Russian conferences. He always provided extraordinary reports and food for thought about innovative technology for banking business development in the current context.
In 2015, Ivan with his family moved to the Republic of Cyprus where received Cypriot citizenship. Today, he does business successfully as an investor in a large-scale construction of luxury apartments in the city of Limassol. Besides, he is a specialist in risk assessment of local property investments in one Cypriot company. As for personal life, Ivan has a wife and two daughters. At his free time, he likes to spend leisure time with his family in the countryside as well as work out in the gym, play chess and golf
