Switching "Firsts" From Analog Devices Feature Low Power Consumption, High Bandwidth, and Space-Saving Packages

Analog Devices ADG918 ADG919

Complementing Analog Devices' portfolio of high-performance switches, the company has added three new innovative developments. These include:

  • Industry-leading wideband CMOS switches operating at frequencies exceeding 1 GHz.
  • Die-size packaging for high-density applications, such as cell phones and PDAs.
  • Digital switches with wide-range voltage translation capabilities

Industry's First Wideband CMOS Switches Exceeding 1 GHz

The ADG918 and ADG919 are the industry's first wideband CMOS switches to provide high isolation and low insertion loss at frequencies exceeding 1 GHz. This is ideal for low-power, high-bandwidth applications, such as wireless metering. The ADG918 is an absorptive switch, while the ADG919 is a reflective (matched) switch. Both offer low power consumption (5 microamps), tiny package sizes, and CMOS-compatible single-pin control voltage levels, making them a cost-effective alternative to GaAs switches in wireless and general-purpose high frequency switching applications. The ADG918 and ADG919 are currently sampling and will be in full production this month. They are priced at $1.07 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities. Single-pole, single-throw versions are also available (ADG901/ADG902).

ADI's First Digital Switches

ADI's first digital switching products provide wide-range voltage level translation capabilities, eliminating the need for external circuitry in 1.8-V to 3.3-V translations. This saves board space and reduces solution cost. This new family of digital switches includes the following:

  • ADG3231/2/3 - JTAG switch with 1.6-V to 3.6-V logic translation. Packaged in a 6-lead SOT-23 package, these level translator, mux and bypass switches are available in one of the smallest footprints available for their pin counts. In 1,000-piece quantities, the ADG3231/2/3 are priced at $0.43, $0.52, and $0.57 per unit, respectively.
  • ADG3257 - Industry standard '3257 switch. The ADG3257 is available in a 16-lead QSOP package and is priced at $0.57 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities.
  • ADG3245/6/7 - 8-, 10-, 16-bit digital switches with 3.3-V to 1.8-V translation capability. The ADG3245/6/7 are available in TSSOP and CSP packages. In 1,000-piece quantities, the ADG3245/6/7 are priced at $0.71, $0.74, and $.98 per unit, respectively.
