Nov. 3, 2003- Motorola, Inc.'s Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) is delivering the first device from its MPC5500 family to the automotive market. Based on the PowerPC® architecture, the MPC5554 32-bit embedded controller is ideal for applications, such as advanced automotive powertrain systems, that require complex, real-time control.

The MPC5554 is a total solution that offers a new level of microcontroller capability. As demands on automotive and industrial designs increase, the MPC5554 offers system performance of up to five times higher than its market-leading MPC500 predecessors. It includes 2MBytes of embedded flash memory - the largest amount of embedded flash offered from Motorola to date - enhanced timer systems and a peripheral set specifically tailored for automotive and industrial applications. To help engineers manage continuing cost pressures, the MPC5554 integrates more functionality on-chip while meeting application needs for increased system performance and complexity.

Pricing and Availability
Motorola will sample the MPC5554 to select automotive customers in Q4 2003. The company will announce general market availability and pricing in Q4 2004.
