TI Adds 500 MSPS, Flexible DAC to Robust Analog Portfolio for Wireless Infrastructure Applications

May 1, 2003 - Texas Instruments (TI) announced today the programmable dual DAC5686, a digital to analog converter supporting up to four wideband CDMA carriers that requires 50% less power when compared to other competitive solutions. Offering designers' three unique modes of operation as well as three separate clock modes, the DAC allows for a low input data rate with a programmable interpolation rate of 2x - 16x up to an output rate of 500 MSPS.

The DAC is coupled with four additional devices to simplify the design time required for the wireless transceiver system of the basestation. The 12-bit, 80 MSPS ADS5410 analog to digital converter offers the lowest power at the lowest cost available. The THS4271 high-speed operational amplifier delivers ultra-low distortion with ultra low noise. TI's new low phase noise clock synthesizer - the CDC7005 - provides multiplying, dividing and jitter cleaning for optimal timing performance. Rounding out the system is the industry's first single-chip digital downconverter and upconverter, the GC5016, which connects seamlessly to the DAC5686.

In addition to providing solutions for the analog transceiver system, TI offers high performance DSPs for the digital baseband and transcoding functions as well as logic solutions that enable designers to increase data throughput, shrink form factors and reduce power consumption. TI's power management products range from discrete devices to modular approaches, addressing the various technical wireless infrastructure system challenges.

The DAC5686 offers excellent performance for single and multi-carrier WCDMA operation. For single carrier WCDMA signals, the DAC5686 has demonstrated ACPR better than 68 dBc at frequencies up to 122.88 MHz. For dual carrier WCDMA signals, ACPR better than 71 dBc is possible up to 61.44 MHz.
