TransferJet, supported by a consortium, is intended for transferring photos and video clips between phones and tablets. Its use model is similar to NFC, but it is much faster.

Users touch the TransferJet ports of their portable devices together, and initiate transfer by a button push. It can be used where there is no Wi-Fi network and, even where there is Wi-Fi. proponents claim the touch-and-click interaction is more intuitive. For security, range is limited to around 3cm.

The dongle, called TJM35420MU, plugs into a microUSB port and can transfer a one minute HD video (128Mbyte) in three seconds.

The module integrates a TransferJet transceiver IC, a coupler, an RF filter, passive parts, and a USB connection circuit. Communications can be implemented in Android 3.x/4.x devices that have a microUSB port by inserting this module and installing application software. Support for other operating systems is being prepared.

As well as the microUSB adaptor, Toshiba is working on enabled full-sized USB version and microSDcard option.
