New Class of Operating System for Raspberry Pi, PROTA Pi

NARAN Prota Agatha

Raspberry Pi + PROTA OS = PROTA Pi. PROTA Pi OS is a new class of operating system for Raspberry Pi.

Raspberry Pi has been on the spotlight for years for its money for value it provides to its users in education, entertainment, hacking, development, and projects. In the process, Raspbian, Pidora, RISC OS, and many more have been the choices for users that were to operate their hardware. Some like Raspbmc and OpenELEC were fairly easy to install but for OS in overall the experience wasn't exactly user-friendly.

Naran Inc.releasing a new version of Prota OS, Prota Agatha (Prota Pi), with major feature updates and more advanced automation engine. Prota Pi we built is no just another distro. It's a complete alternative for your device that yields an OS experience rethought, an aim to achieve a programmable automation that anyone can create and share. PROTA Pi is the novel class of operating system for everyone.

Your prior experience with Raspberry Pi called for wired connection of your monitor and Raspberry Pi. This was the point where we needed to change. Due to its current picture of connectivity, your user experience of Raspberry Pi was much like that of personal computers and accessibility of the device was limited. We believed Raspberry Pi must be a network device like servers that was accessible via web. Moreover, by bringing in HTML5, we gave the richness and vitality of user interface you were accustomed to.

Network devices, however, have never been easy to manage. One of the reasons is that you had to find and type in the IP address of the device, which changed from time to time, to access via network. We solved this with myprota.me, the user experience much like web surfing that you have been used to: accessing by a specific web address. You can type in the web address, myprota.me, or make a bookmark to access from the home screen of your device.

Starting from Agatha, Prota OS aims to be truly headless, fully wireless and universally accessible.  Here’s the high-level overview of Prota Agatha.

  • Easy setup
Prota Agatha can be configured without keyboard, mouse and monitor directly attached to it. Everything is done wirelessly over WiFi using your smartphone or PC.

  • Cloud Access
Access Prota via Cloud Access. Prota is now accessible from anywhere without configuring your network routers (no more port forwarding, DMZ, etc.). Note that some apps may not support Cloud Access, in which case you need to access your Prota using its local IP address.

  • Stories
The core automation engine of Prota OS is named Stories. Users now can create automation rules or stories for their connected things using natural language. For now, it only recognizes predefined structures of natural language, but in the future, we will make it extremely flexible.

  • GPIO (Prota Pi only)
GPIO has never been easier with Prota Pi. Stories fully supports GPIO, so you can directly make use of GPIO pins when writing automation stories. Digital read/write, interrupts are supported in the current version.

  • OSS apps
Install open source apps with no hassle. They’re not simply ported to Prota; they also offer Stories automation.

As you may already know, we’ve been focusing and working hard on MicroBots throughout the last year. MicroBot is a series of wireless robotic finger and actuators that can push any buttons or turns a knob in any direction. And Prota is the ultimate companion of MicroBots. It gives them Internet access and helps you to automate their workflows.
