The Arkona offshore wind farm of E.On and Equinor went into operation with a festive event in the port of Sassnitz-Mukran on the island of Rügen.

Arkona is the largest wind farm in the entire Baltic Sea, according to E.On.

The Arkona wind farm is located more than 20 miles northeast of the island of Rügen. The wind farm has a capacity of 385 MW and can supply about 400,000 households with renewable energy.

The investment volume amounts to $1.35 billion. Compared to conventionally generated electricity, Arkona saves up to 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.

60 turbines of the 6 MW class from Siemens were installed. Arkona is a joint venture between E.On and the Norwegian energy company Equinor.
