Texas Instruments (TI) Intoduces PROFIBUS Transceivers With Low Signal Distortion And Improved Reliability For Industrial Networks

Texas Instruments

New Transceivers are Fully Compliant with EN 50170 and TIA/EIA-485 Standards

Sept. 11, 2003 - Supplying system designers with a new level of performance, Texas Instruments (TI) Incorporated announced today the availability of new PROFIBUS transceivers that offer low signal distortion and improved reliability. The SN65HVD1176 and SN75HVD1176 transceivers provide improved output transition skew of less than 1 nanosecond (0.2 nsec typical), giving system designers the ability to tighten up the total timing budget of their networked applications. HVD1176 also features high ESD protection of 10 kV and fail-safe for open, idle and shorted bus conditions, which are ideal for demanding industrial applications.

TIґs HVD1176 half-duplex transceivers are designed for PROFIBUS and RS-485 networks. Powered by a 5-V supply, it is fully compliant with the EN 50170 and TIA/EIA-485 standards. With low skew during output transitions and driver enabling / disabling, this device is suitable for signaling rates up to 40 Mbps over long twisted-pair cables. HVD1176 also provides excellent common-mode rejection up to 50 MHz and 1/5 unit load to have 160 nodes on a bus.

HVD1176 could be widely used for process automation: chemical production, brewing and distillation, paper mills; factory automation: automobile production, rolling, pressing, stamping machines, networked sensors; general RS-485 networks: motor/motion control, HVAC and building automation Networks, networked security stations
